Privacy Policy

Careersentials is run by Cindy Summerfield, a sole proprietor doing business as Careersentials, in Illinois, USA ("we," "us"). This policy explains, in plain English, what information we collect at careersentials.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions? Email hello@careersentials.com.

The short version

• The free résumé check runs entirely in your browser. The résumé you paste into it is not sent to us or stored by us.
• For the paid rewrite, your résumé and questionnaire answers are sent to a third-party AI provider to write your new résumé. We do not keep a copy, and we never sell your information.
• Stripe handles payments. We never see or store your full card number.
• If you join our email list, we use your email only to send you Careersentials updates and tips. You can unsubscribe at any time.

1. The free age-proof check

The free check is a program that runs on your own device, inside your web browser. The text you paste is analyzed there and is not uploaded to our servers. If you close the page, it's gone.

2. The paid résumé rewrite

When you buy a rewrite, you paste your résumé and answer a short questionnaire (for example, your field, target job title, team sizes, budgets, and results). To produce your rewrite, we send that text to a third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) through its business API. The provider processes it only to generate your rewrite. Under its current API terms, the provider does not use this data to train its models and may keep it for a limited time (generally up to 30 days) for security and abuse monitoring before deleting it.

We show your new résumé and LinkedIn text on screen. We do not store your résumé, your answers, or the rewritten text on our servers. To prevent a single payment from being reused, we keep a record of your Stripe checkout session ID (not your résumé) for up to 90 days.

Please leave out information you don't want shared, such as your home address, Social Security number, date of birth, or health details. A résumé doesn't need them.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your résumé or any other personal information, and we do not use your résumé for advertising.

3. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. You enter your card details on Stripe's secure checkout page, not on our site. Stripe gives us limited information about your purchase, such as your name, email address, amount paid, and payment status, which we use to confirm your payment, provide support, handle refunds, and keep business and tax records. Stripe's use of your information is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

4. Email signups

If you sign up for our newsletter or waitlist, we collect your email address and, if you choose to tell us, which career stage interests you. We use it only to send you Careersentials news, tips, and offers. Every email will include a way to unsubscribe, or you can email us to be removed. We may use an email service provider to send these messages; it may use your address only to deliver them for us.

If you email us at hello@careersentials.com, we use your message and address to reply and help you.

5. Hosting, security, and analytics

Our website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which also protects the site from attacks. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request, so it can deliver the site and keep it secure. Email signups are stored with Cloudflare.

We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful. It is designed to be privacy-friendly: it does not use cookies to track you and does not build a profile of you across other websites. We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers.

6. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run Careersentials (our AI provider, Stripe, Cloudflare, and an email provider if we use one), and only as needed for them to provide their services to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a transfer if the business is reorganized or sold (for example, into a company Cindy forms). In that case, this policy would continue to apply to your information.

7. How long we keep information

• Résumé text and questionnaire answers: not stored by us (see section 2 for the AI provider's limited retention).
• Checkout session IDs used to prevent reuse: up to 90 days.
• Purchase records: as long as needed for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
• Email list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

8. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to tell you what personal information we have about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can unsubscribe from our emails at any time. Email hello@careersentials.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to keep some records (for example, payment records) where the law requires it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your state's privacy laws, and we will honor them.

9. Security

We use reputable providers, encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and limited-access keys to protect your information. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to keep what we collect to a minimum.

10. Children

Careersentials is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll make that clear on the site or by email before it takes effect.
